Executive Careers

How career growth, opportunity, and development shape long-term executive commitment.

A Different Perspective

Executive careers are often viewed as a sequence of promotions, increasingly complex roles, and expanding responsibilities. While those milestones matter, they do not fully explain why senior executives remain committed to an organization over time.

My research suggests that career decisions are fundamentally forward-looking. Senior executives continue evaluate whether they can continue leaning, contributing, and growing where they are. Promotions alone rarely answer that question. What matters is whether leaders create a credible future that extends beyond the next title or role.

This perspective shifts the conversation from career progression to career development. Sustainable executive careers are built not only through advancement, but through meaningful opportunities to expand influence, deepen expertise, and continue making a difference.

The essays collected here explore how career growth, leadership, and organizational context shape the decisions senior executives make throughout their careers.
