Leading Across Cultures
Leadership is universal. Its expression is cultural
A Different Perspective
Leadership does not take place in a cultural vacuum. The behaviors that build trust, encourage commitment, and support career development are interpreted differently across cultures.
Throughout my career leading organizations in Europe, the United States, and Latin America, I learned that leadership principles may be universal, but their effectiveness depends on how they are expressed and understood in different cultural contexts. That experience later shaped both my teaching of intercultural leadership and my research into globally mobile executives.
Leading across cultures therefore extends the ideas explored throughout this website. It examines how culture influences leadership, executive careers, and executive retention, and the capabilities leaders need to build trust and commitment in multinational organizations.
Culture does not replace the principles of leadership. It shapes how those principles are expressed, experienced, and understood.
